Best News for a long while
I hope you dont mind me calling you Bill since you are my super senior. We have a lot of information regarding the school. Started in 1-8-1933. Recently I acquired photo copies of documents from the La Salle Provincialate in PJ, Selangor. The school is officially opened in 1939 by Tunku Abdul Rahman(father of Malaysia) when he was the district officer in Kulim. Right now we are in the process of acquiring as much information as possible to upgrade the history of the school.During the dinner there will be slide show regarding the history of the school. Very important ? Will you be joining us?

Letter from Dave
Dear Teddy
Thank you very much for the unpdates on our reunion. Am glad to know that 50 are coming (may b more!!). 50 is a good number...we hve not met or seen or heard about ea other for 50 years and 50 are coming!!!! that's fantastic. Thanks to you Teddy! (ur hard work goin to pay off now..looks like it anyway).
Sorry that i juz couldnt make it for two nites for family reasons. Whatever this ONE reunion is what i am NOT goin to miss.
What you and the gang have in store for the members on the nite is allready fantastic and more then enuf i think. Too much stage n etc presentations would distract us from talking to each other and catching up for about half a century of our "time lost" with these frens that r turning up come 1st Aug 2008. For me personally...seeing you guys and talking abt the good old days are better then a 1,000 presentations......
Was in Kulim yesterday, passed by our old school (St.Patrick's) they hve painted the whole building orange (yuuuuckk!! what weird tastes these presnt administrations have!!!). There were abt 2 or 3 storey new blocks. The main building (facing the road) is beeing renovated....its windows are being replaced with large single glass sheets (may be they r goin to air-con the area). It is now Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St.Patrick, Kulim! - SMKSP,Kulim.
Well that's about all from me at this time. Thanks again for your reply. Pls snd my regards to all our frens..especially to William (if he stills remember me hehehe).
Dave
From William. Ahem !!!
You have to forgive me, I can't remember anyone by the name of Dave (good name no doubt) I am just dying to meet you and everyone. I was surprised to see the number 50- I will have to relearn all those names- If you see me with a pad all the time it is because I want more stories from you all and this blog is going to exist for more years to come for the interest of your families and friends of St Pat. Please send me more stories for publication on the blog no matter how brief the stories may be. Everything will be very relevant including -- how to fry koey teow ( reference to Stewart Chew's culinary skill). So don't disappoint me. What about your story, Dave?

HI ! Patricians
I am Mohanarao. Ex-student - 1960 till 1968. At the moment I am the principal of St.Patrick Secondary School. This is the 75th anniversary of our school. At the school level we had/have a few programmes. On 27th January 2008, we had the inaugural general meeting for 'Persatuan Alumni SMK St Patrick". It was officially registered. We have produced a special button badge to commemorate the 75th celebration. The celebration was officaially launched on 17th of April. Covered in the Star. On that day 2 ex-students gave RM50000 to upgrade the school. Right now the renovation is going on to be in time for the main celebration on the 3rd of August. On that night we are planning a dinner in the school. I am appealing to all former Patricians to come forward to help me to regain the Patrician spirit and bring the school to its past glory. As part of the celebration, we plan to produce a commemorative school magazine bearing photograghs, information of yesteryears as well as small write-ups of ex-students of their days in school. Please contribute. Feel free to drop by at the school any time.

Reunion
June 2008
Dear Friends,
What a wonderful feeling to hear from someone (on the phone), someone that I haven't heard of for about 43 years!!. Yes my friend, this month of June 2008 brought me yet another find. Thru the help of Steve (Tan C.Eng) I called my long lost friend (your friend too of course!) Loh Kee Chang, who in 1961 studied in the same class with me in form five at SBS and again between 1962 - 1964 we met as colleagues at the SPS Afternoon School as temporary school teachers. LKC also provided me a contact number of yet another long lost friend of mine. That friend incidentally lived in Padang Serai back in the 1950s and PS was also a town where I grew up in during my childhood and early teens before my parents shifted to Kulim in December of 57. That friend is Teddy Dielenberg.
Meanwhile on the 23 May 2008 Sim Boon Lee our friend in BM gave me a contact number of one of the SPS Kulim afternoon school teacher of late 1960s by the name of Cheong Cheng Poh. Although I do not know Mr.Cheong personally, but all the same very pleased to welcome him to THEtree. He too had at one time lived in Kulim in the 1960s. I called Cheong C.Poh and he sounded real happy and cheerful to talk to someone from Kulim of the 60s. Cheong C.Poh now lives in Penang.
I must thank both our friends here for nurturing THEtree and for keeping the flame of friendships and comradeships burning. THEtree is there fore truly the heartbeat of Kulim in the 60s!! Its clear now THEtree is growing.
I am glad to inform you that a grand reunion is in the making for St.Patrick's old boys, especially for Class of '58 but all other exPatricians, irrespective of year of graduation are most welcome. The person organizing this special get together is none other then Teddy himself. The information I gathered from the flyer are as follows (abbreviated):-

Looks like I have come to the end of yet another interesting and nostalgic letter. I am sure I will have more things to share with you about our lives in Kulim once upon a time, meanwhile please don't be shy (or lazy) to write back or respond in what ever manner suitable for you. Your responses and replies are crucial to maintain or rather keep the fire of friendships between us burns ever brighter with the passing of each day.

May 2008
Dear Friends,
Hi everyone!! how's life with you these days. I felt like a hundred years have passed by - it seemed such a long time that I didn't write you any letter - which actually I just missed the month of April 2008. The fact is I was in Kuala Lumpur for the whole of that month. As soon as I got back to Alor Star (where my home is, nothing can beat my old hometown - KULIM!!) the first thing that struck my mind was THEtree and all of you my friends; how I have neglected THEtree for over a month!! Hopefully I don't need to go out station anymore and thus could keep in touch with all of you under THEtree on a more regular basis - nurturing the friendships and rekindling the long lost comradeships!
I was back in my old hometown sometimes in March and what a wonderful feeling to have met (and hug) friends that I haven't met for the last 48 years!! I met Boon Lee and Steve (Tan Chor Ing). We chatted for quite a while (real nostalgic indeed.) as I was in a hurry to other destinations on the day we have to "postpone the meeting" but before I left I took a photo of the auspicious and rare occasion (moment like this is hard to find) for memory because memories are made of this! (Photographs I mean).
After I last wrote you (that is in March 2008), I was pleasantly surprised by a letter I retrieved (on 8 March) from my P.O.Box. It came from Kota Kinabalu and it was none other then our good friend Heng Ah Tee who wrote;
Dave,
Never in a million, do I expect a call from you, anyway thanks.
After going through THEtree there's a nice feeling over me. As I was tired after the "holiday" in Kulim, it act as a refreshing drink, it energized me.
I would like to congratulate you, to come up with such a wonderful idea "THEtree" you are one of those who do the extraordinary just to bring old friends connected and informed.
It will be a great pleasure to give any help if any of you folks intend to visit K.K. Just let me know in advance.
From "the land below the wind" - Thanks,
Heng Ah Tee.
Well that is warm and that's what friendships are all about; Heng Ah Tee's letter testifies to that fact.
My search for a long lost friend (Lim Yot Tee) a former colleague at the SPS (Private) back in 1963 ended with one phone call in March of this year. I finally find Lim Yot Tee our old friend and now that we are connected, LYT promised me that he will try to get me yet another colleague (Loh Kee Chang) contact number.
Looks like I have come to the end of yet another nostalgic letter.
